For everyone wants to belong to something or someone. Our children long for our approval and affections. Let’s use these teachable moments to demonstrate family values through acts of kindness during this season. Here are three ways parents could demonstrate family values through acts of kindness.
Christmas Cards. Using snail mail to send a message to someone is still relevant. Most people like gifts in the mail. In preparation, find a quiet place to sit with your child(ren) and help them draft a cheerful message. Check the grammar with the child. Then, write the final draft on fancy paper. Maybe your child(ren) will enjoy create their own cards.
Serve. Find a family in need or organization that is recruiting volunteers this season. Places like food pantries, churches, neighbors or family members.
Donate. Being generous while shopping for some gifts and food is a win-win. Various not-for-profit organizations have partnered with grocers and other retail stores to promote their annual fundraising campaigns. This is a convenient way to show an act of kindness.
Family values provide our children with pride because they belong to a someone or something bigger than themselves. If acts of kindness is a norm in your household, your children should eventually demonstrate acts of kindness without external motivation. Remember to send a thank you to someone special, find a place to serve, or make a purchase that will make a difference.
Make it a great day.
