Black History Month

EDUCATION 2021

Barack Obama

“And when it comes to developing the high standards we need, it’s time to stop working against our teachers and start working with them. Teachers don’t go in to education to get rich. They don’t go in to education because they don’t believe in their children. They want their children to succeed, but we’ve got to give them the tools. Invest in early childhood education. Invest in our teachers and our children will succeed.”

 – Barack Obama

These words of Former President Obama ring in my ear as I consider new ways to invest in our children’s success. Investing in our teachers begins with demonstrating high expectations for education in the home and community. Work schedules worldwide would feel the impact if every early childhood educator decided to call off work tomorrow? They, too, are a valuable part of the education team.

Yes, this is a very challenging time, but we cannot afford to get tired when it comes to our children’s education. COVID has exposed the disparity of education in our minority schools, and our emphasis should not only be during Black History Month. It is time to rewrite the history books. We need teamwork and collaboration like never before.  Invest doesn’t necessarily mean money. What are you doing now to invest in our children’s future during these times of uncertainty?
